Milton Bradley - Point of No Return

  • "Point of No Return" is a record made expressly to make you wig out. There's really no other explanation for the patient, foreboding atmosphere that Milton Bradley sets out for a few minutes before inserting a needling, unexpected spurt of sound that blurts every so often before heading back to the hole from which it came. Bradley, whose work has largely been of the Dettmann school since his reappearance in the dance music world a few years ago, breaks here from his younger inspiration by making something so utterly distinctive that you'll have a hard time forgetting it once you've heard it. The B-side is decidedly more functional and, as a result, far less memorable. The tracks are no less interesting in the context of Bradley's limited discography, however. "Motor City" is, as its title suggests, a tribute to Detroit's melodic techno, pushed forward by an organ line—words I'd never thought I'd be writing in relation to a record on Do Not Resist The Beat! "Revelation" returns home to a more usual Bradley sound, however, relying on dub fundamentals to garnish a slightly wonky 4/4 beat. With "Point of No Return" on the flip, though, you'd be forgiven if you never get to it.
