- Is this the direction that deep house will continue to head for the early part of the '10s, as people retreat from the cash-sapping dance floors of large clubs and instead find solace in the more intimate surroundings of living rooms and local pubs, table and chairs pushed back against the walls and dancing feet packed into the space that remains? If that is indeed the case, we needn't worry. The soaring strings and funky guitars that listlessly pluck their way through warm bass hits on David August's "Instant Harmony," build to such a gloriously subtle peak that you'll no doubt have a moronic grin plastered all over your face by its end. "Music Is the Place to Be" is more energetic, with a big, squelchy bassline and passionately wailing vocals, but doesn't try too hard to impress, impressing massively as a result.
The B-side kicks off with the imposing, Tron-esque synth-stabs of "Moving Day," which warns of a pretty meaty breakdown some minutes later. It might not be as coolly restrained as the rest of the EP, but one hands-in-the-air moment ain't going to ruin anyone's day and it might even be the "obvious" pick of the bunch. My "obvious" pick, though, is "Rebound (Give Me Some of Them)." It's everything that is sexy, credible and infectiously danceable about house music and nothing that is cheesy, predictable and crass.
