Coyote - Moving

  • After managing to coax Harvey back into the studio for a series of releases, commissioning remixes from Daniele Baldelli and Marcellus Pittman, and securing two drifting, beatless excursions from the Quiet Village chaps, the International Feel label continues to assert its presence on the electronic disco scene with a release from Coyote. The Nottingham-based duo have channelled their sun-kissed disco-house output through their own Is It Balearic? Imprint until now, although on this outing they've gone for more of a dance floor vibe, what with "Moving"'s driving beat and naggingly insistent piano riff. Sometime MIA and Maurice Fulton vocalist Nesreen Shah also puts in an accomplished performance, acting the house diva while avoiding the wailing histrionics. Still Going up the tempo with their remix on the flipside, which keeps the piano but pushes it to the background, bringing the main focus to Shah's vocal and their rumbling rhythm track. Due to their tempo change, the original groove is a little bit squashed and the hi-hat rolls sound slightly awkward, but it should still give DJs who don't like to stray under 120 BPM a way to utilise the piano line and vocal. A remix of International People's Gang's "Second" completes the package. It's likely to be the choice cut for the Balearic beard-strokers. Making the most of their Mark Hollis-cum-Bernard Sumner vocal, the Coyote guys whack on a bassline straight out of the Peter Hook book, before cruising along into synthesised strings and cascading pianos.
