Blakkat - In This World

  • The Mild Pitch world has been an insular one thus far, only extending past a trio of talented Essen producers for the odd remix. That changes on their seventh release with the welcoming of Blakkat to the label's family. The Los Angeleno featured in vocal form on Manuel Tur's full-length from last year on Freerange, and here he drops into the producer's chair with two versions of "In This World." The tracks are similar to the sort of dub techno that Mild Pitch has excelled in, but because of Blakkat's vocals have an even stronger pop-orientation than usual. Blakkat's Devotional sounds like it was made explicitly for Charles Webster to drop in a deeper moment. Bkat's DTLA dub pushes the vocals down beneath the surface, but keeps the essentials of the melody. More importantly, its beat positively bounces, as if it were a hiccupping yo-yo. Another of the Mild Pitch clan, Langenberg, pitches in on remix duties on the B-side. He either bites shamelessly from Efdemin's "Acid Bells" or both of them owe a sample CD maker a beer. Either way, it's nearly as divine as the Dial producer's effort due to none other than Blakkat himself, his vocals smoldering over top the driving beat. Another wonderful platter from Mild Pitch.
