Federleicht - ModeRn Dada

  • With Wareika's Florian Schirmacher at the A&R helm of new German label FormResonance, you immediately understand that the imprint's output will be—if nothing else—distinctive. That's very much the case for the label's debut release, Federleicht's ModeRn Dada. The duo of Florian Schirmacher and Marc Bammann have quietly built a small catalogue of memorable dance floor-ready work over the past 18 months—most notably with their Connaisseur release On the Streeets. "Rosa Lee," the track in abundance here, isn't quite as anthemic as that 2009 end-of-the-night burner. But "Rosa"'s analogue keys nonetheless give it the same sort of warmth. It comes in original, vocal and club forms and you'll likely appreciate the choice. The original's bounce is muted to some degree by a slightly lacking bottom end, the vocals of Schirmacher—if you're familiar with Wareika or his work on Pantytec's debut album in the early '00s—are an acquired taste and you'll have no reason for a club edit if you're simply sitting at home. That latter position is where you'll want to be for "Lillie & Douai" at all times. It's an experimental track whose immersive aims are realized via light waves of static, a sampled guitar and what sounds like Schirmacher buried underneath all of it. Here's hoping that he comes up for air soon. FormResonance could use more records like this.
