- Ram Records has to be one of THE best and most respected drum'n'bass labels around today with tracks like Bodyrock gaining massive respect and airplay from drum'n'bass, hip hop and breaks DJ's alike - not to mention revolutionising drum'n'bass beats with it's swingtime feel. Another honourable mention goes to record label owner and well respected producer, Andy C who made it into the Top 100 DJ's list.
Moving Fusion are another well-respected duo from these nutty drum'n'bass heads with a passion for creating, hard, driving drum'n'bass tunes, and they've just released their new album - The Start Of Something.
Ghost Lane is the opener track and it has a very sharp hard rock feel to it especially with the guitar part. The same goes for Reality. Similar in style to Roni Size/Reprazent.
Female vocals work well with drum'n'bass as Kosheen have demonstrated and Star Sign is further proof of that.
Chilli Pepper is on a Spanish/Jamaican tip with the steel drum sounds and the flamenco guitar interludes playing a very familiar old tune (Dad help me with this one!).
The hard and funky tunes are ever present in this release with Back To The Future, Guy Fawkes and Battleground all heavy on the bassline and crisp breaks, with the latter providing enough space for battle DJ's to scratch and juggle on.
A touch of electro styles and a vocal that sounds very similar to Karl Hyde from Underworld make Sky Ride drum'n'bass' answer to Born Slippy.
There's 12 tracks of dark, hard drum'n'bass for all the extreme junglists out there, with enough funk and bass to educate some of the newbie drum'n'bass fans out there without being labelled cheesy like those jump up drum'n'bass compilations started to get. Maybe this album really is The Start Of Something - the start of drum'n'bass making it's way back into the fore of underground breaks music.
As a bonus, Moving Fusion have also included a mix CD feature all the tracks on the album and others from previous releases such as my personal favourite, Thunderball which DJ Hype used as the opener to his Fabric CD.
