Aroy Dee - The Planets

  • The Delsin family continues their fine run of form, bringing us back to the future with another welcome re-release from the archives. This time around it's Aroy Dee's deep Chicago-flavoured hit from 2003 on Newworldaquarium's eponymous label, backed with a Vince Watson rework on the flip side. Split hairs all you like, but choosing a winner between these two is a futile task. Dee's original is more subtle and melodically agile, but what Watson's interpretation may lose in tenderness he gains back by force. Relentless and seemingly wracked in a purposeful fury, it works hard to maintain its drive over eight minutes, cramming in steely dub chords and an endless barrage of percussive decoration on top of the blurry traces of the original. Dee, on the other hand, gives his production plenty of air and uses a lithe touch to send the synth drones and cowbells swirling in a mesmerising swoon. Two massive tracks made for a packed floor.
