  • Indie disco, Australian style, is the remit of Future Classic's latest 12-inch missive, and it's indie disco of the highest order. You've got Pink Frost remixing Todd Sparrow's "Evening Star" into a massive nine minute carpet ride of synths, bouncy beats and that little bit of naked piano at the end that signifies the sort of solemnity that can only come from white guys making disco. Speaking of solemnity, Clubfeet turns up with a track called "Edge of Extremes," and it may just be the straightest thing here. Credit for that goes to the lead singer who does his best Alexis Taylor impression over a restrained yet funky backdrop. The tension is let out in the chorus, but they're at their best when they keep things under wraps. (Nothing is funkier than an uptight white guy. Just ask David Byrne.) On the flip, Sidwho?'s "Millionaire" finds his way to the dance floor via the Future Classic remix. Sid sounds like he's caught underwater, and also a bit drunk at the same time, but you can't fault a man for trying to break the bonds of the 4/4 straitjacket. He never succeeds, but that's a good thing, as Future Classic's groovy backing has a light guitar line worthy of a dance, and his own original's bassline is the sort of thing that Peter Hook used to play before he took up DJing full-time.
