Kollektiv Turmstrasse - Luechtoorn

  • "Luechtoorn" is the kind of track you hear when you've arrived a bit early to a club. It's a time when everyone acclimates in their own way, whether it's throwing back drinks, chatting with others or sitting in a corner with closed eyes. Kollektiv Turmstrasse—Christian Hilscher and Nico Plagemann—deliver pulsing strings and keys atop sleek, mechanical rhythms. It picks up quickly with a scooped up bass beat and distorted vocals, and it moves with the same centrifugal force as the ghostly whirl that softly permeates everything. While much of their personality as a duo emphasizes friendship and love as main ingredients in their music, "Luechtoorn" is ominous enough to have you believe you're standing in the dark woods as opposed to a dark room. It's as kinetic and controlled as prime moments on Gui Boratto's Chromophobia, and uses string instrumentation as masterfully as Agoria on "Les Violons Ivres." In "Luechtoorn"'s moment of ecstasy, cello and piano swell together at its peak, and everything pauses as if the song's various layers are momentarily suspended in air. Continuing on, the track regains its prior shape—more complete and assured than ever before. Accompanying the original mix is a rework by Dominik Eulberg, who provides a more straight-forward, thumping version of Kollektiv's production. The ghostly whirls from side A are more like steam pipes in a techno factory here. It's hard to imagine a body unable to respond to its call.
