Agoria feat. Scalde - Solarized

  • Agoria continues his sideways glance at electronic music with this, his second 12-inch of 2009. Sideways because while the tune, an elegant piano tech house epic, seemingly fits neatly into the genres just described, it also doesn't. An extended mix of the track already found on his soundtrack, Go Fast, the tune builds as though it will eventually explode into some sort of climax, but it never quite gets there. The main move, instead, is a simple chord change halfway through. Sure, it's got piano. It's tech house. And it's most certainly epic. But elegant is the key word here—things never get out of control, making it a perfect mid-set moment of drama before the eventual storm. The singer—Scalde—never raises his voice, although when it wavers a tiny bit, he evokes Antony. And he's simply absent, as you might expect, from the dub version. That track, found on the B-side, is even more curiously addictive. Here, there's nothing to focus on aside from the lightly punched Reich-speed piano chords and how deep Agoria's kick drum can get. It's perfect for an acapella. Or, if you're feeling like raising the stakes ever so slightly, just play the A-side instead.
