- The fifth in a series of very successful Another Late Night releases following on from Fila Brazillia, Howie B, Rae & Christian and Zero 7, sees the superstylin' legends Groove Armada mix up a groovy concoction of cabaret music, cocktail house, old school funk and a bit of hip hop thrown in for good measure.
Starting off the selection with their own cover of Fly Me To The Moon, GA set the scene here it's heavy piano laden melody with a few atmospheric samples added for that dreamy feel. Another Late Night inviting each of the compilers and mixers to contribute a remix of a classic track.
The chilled out house section kicks in next starting off with a Dubtribe Sound System mix of BRS' Lovin' Me. For those familiar with the Dubtribe sound, you can easily hear their influence on this tune which is heavy on the tribal percussion.
Always known for a decent tune is Tummy Touch Records' label owner, Tim 'Love' Lee contributing Java Jam. Really fat bass on top of a hip hop break beat with some old skool funk throwbacks cut in.
Tonight by Kleeer is a funky vocoder jam with a wicked bassline and should get any listener wiggling bums in their seats.
Awesome hip hop MC, Jeru The Damaja's highly sampled Ya Playin Yaself gets thrown into the mix as an acapella, all by itself! Halfway through Roy Ayers' The Memory gets thrown into the mix for some old school funk flava. Other notable old school legends come inthe form of Grace Jones, Shuggie Otis, Al Green and Aretha Franklin who all feature with classy selections.
Metro Area 4 bring out the dirty house vibe with Miura, Don Ray pull out some new disco vibes with Standing In The Rain and Mr Fingers AKA house legend Larry Heard gets all melodic on Can You Feel It?.
Of course Groove Armada have to contribute at least another track or remix of their own and they represent with their Country House remix of Rae & Christian feat. The Pharcyde on Let It Go
To end it all off, Another Late Night presents Late Night Tales, the first chapter in a short story called Peepshow which is continued over 4 issues. ALN fans, be sure to collect the rest!
