Psychonauts - World Keeps Turning

  • The original version of ‘World Keeps Turning’ was first put out on DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolos label back in 2003, spawning a double pack of remixes the following year. Four years on, the Tiefschwarz lads have decided to re-licence the track with new mixes from original Psychonaut member Paul Mogg (alongside his new production partner Xavier Naudascher), and tech house duo Audiofly. The original release was accompanied by more than competent remixes from both The Emperor Machine and Highfish and Zander (the latter being an energetic tech house anthem that featured on official mix compilations by both Superpitcher and Abe Duque), so have Tiefschwarz brought something new and fresh to the table? The answer, unfortunately, is a resounding ‘no’. Mogg and Naudascher’s mix is on a grindingly acidic electro house tip, relying on silly wibbling synth noises to inject any sort of excitement into its tiring groove, but Audiofly actually manage to go one step further into tedium with their staid version. Lumping the vocal onto a mediocre ket-house backing track, you wonder exactly how many minutes it took them to throw it together. The gothic electro-disco of the original really is the only passable track on here, and even then, its restrained melancholy means that it’s unlikely to get much club play.
