Acid Circus - Reduxtion EP

  • Droid Behavior might be most known for throwing parties in Los Angeles, but they’re no strangers to the record label game, either, having trickled releases into the marketplace once or twice a year since 2003. This time around, label bosses Acid Circus return with the Reduxtion EP, a brilliant four-tracker perfectly primed for the afterhours dancefloor. The title track gets straight to the point, with funky arpeggios and hissing percussion that sends the cut careening headlong into a euphoric climax of fist pumping analog frenzy. Recalling Alex Smoke at his most direct, ‘Reduxtion’ forgoes melodic arrangement in favor of unrelenting rhythmic propulsion with an acidic edge. Agaric's remix is also ace, dialing down the original’s gleeful excesses in favor of tripped out atmospherics and clipped beats. Both are perfectly formed doses of heady minimal. But the real prize is on the flip. Quite possibly this year's answer to Ambivalent’s ‘R U OK,’ ‘Uncle Jak’ is an infectious little cut shaded with just the right amount of weirdness, filled with all sorts of rhythmic twists and turns that will keep the crowd on its toes. Of course, the vocal sample—a pitched up recording of a reveler who has no doubt been at the party just a wee bit too long—is sure to boost its appeal, but the nuts and bolts of the music hold up just fine on its own. Expect to hear this everywhere as 2008 kicks into gear.
