Radio Slave - Bell Clap Dance

  • In case you were wondering, yes, Matt Edwards is still the busiest guy in techno. Although Quiet Village has remained relatively true to its name in the past year, Edwards' Radio Slave alias has continued its march towards ubiquity with a raft of 12s and remixes. Oh. And that Misch Masch mix too. The ten-minute mind erasing original here is frustratingly simple, riding the typically warm Rekids drum sound and an awkward bell loop. Things shift quickly into focus when the overwhelming six-note riff barrels in, though. Immediately, the awkward loop turns menacingly addictive and the drums start to groove rather than simply bounce. Add a dash of variety to the riff, gently effect the bells (sure), turn up the clapping once in a while (duh), aaaaaand…anthem. It's a long one, sure, but Edwards justifies the sprawl and then some. Watergate resident Sebo K turns up on the flip for the remix. His rework is imaginative, toning down the unrelenting tempo of the original and transforming it into a deep house epic. The phonemes "Ahh" and "You" make their way in, although I'll be damned if I can hear them in the original.
