Goldfish & Der Dulz - 13 Klänge

  • This is the latest twelve on Dessous, Steve Bug's deeper companion to Poker Flat. Goldfish und der Dulz have a slew of releases behind them on labels such as Playhouse and Boxer Recordings, but my last contact with them was their 2006 release 'Uhu', parts of which came on like a techier New Order. '13 Klänge' however, does nothing of the sort, ploughing a fairly straight deep house furrow, albeit a very synthetic one. '13 Klänge (Version 1)' is slightly offbeat track with hypnotic undertones and abrupt synth stabs. Warm pads keep things going and it's reasonably melodic, but I don't know if it would get me out of bed. The 'Alternative remix' by Plasmik hollows things out somewhat, keeping the abrupt synth stab element but altering its pitch. There's also a finger click that remains reasonably constant throughout. It's consistent enough, but nothing remarkable. Plasmik's other remix takes things deeper, omitting the synth stabs but pushing the bass to the fore. 'Chirocco' rounds the package off and is definitely the most floor-friendly track here, but even though it's obviously well put together, there's really nothing that stands out. This is, I suppose, every bit a Plasmik release as one by Goldfish und der Dulz, and Plasmik have been more than visible throughout their short recording career, due to being remixed by Anja Schneider and heavily playlisted by the likes of Jamie Jones, but I can't find anything in this package that grabs you by the ears and draws you in. Solid and good for the warm-up, but uninspiring.
