Serafin/Roman Bruderer - Dream Sequence/The Move

  • After plenty of buzz about the third release on the Swiss label Mountain People, Serafin and Roman Bruderer now follow it up with this two-track EP that continues the deep house vibe of its predecessor, and is almost certain to keep people talking about this interesting imprint. 'Dream Sequence' on the A side perhaps veers a tiny bit too close to lounge-house territory, but it's still a nice piece of Euro deepness. Just try and ignore the slightly cheesy film sample in the breakdown where a child says "she says you're such a stud, she gets nervous and sweats a lot". 'The Move' on the other hand is another track which seems to be inspired by Kerri Chandler, just as the magical 'Mountain 004' was. Built around the simplest of melodies, a touch of cowbell, and some nice percussion, the whole thing is drenched in that faintly trancey dreamlike feeling that made 'Mountain 004' really grab your attention and dilate the pupils a little. Once again the one riff is extended for an almost insanely long nine minutes, but if you're DJing then I suppose you don't have to play it all! Above all, 'The Move' is another really wide-eyed groove that shines through as something a little different, and will get the synapses twitching for almost anyone who likes house music. Even if this release perhaps isn't quite as good as Mountain People's last one, that's simply because that twelve was of a really rare quality. Another great record from a label that's gathering steam.
