Marc Schneider - Buddha Call

  • By day an employee of the German distributor Word and Sound, Marc Schneider grabbed a considerable amount of attention when he released his first ever 12”, ‘Sniper King’, on his employer's imprint. The twisted grooves of his debut found favour with the likes of Ripperton and Jay Haze, unsurprisingly in the case of the latter as Schneider's sound is very similar to what we're used to from Fuckpony and Tuning Spork. So now Marc Schneider returns, faced with the task of outdoing himself and once again bringing that choppy, bumping house sound into the 21st century. First up comes ‘Buddha Call’, a slamming piece of house music that's like a more lo-fi take on Jamie Jones ‘Panama City’. So in other words, it sounds like Fuckpony once again, however that's no bad thing. And even if ‘Buddha Call’ is a little longer than necessary for such a simple idea, it's a nice part two for those who liked Schneider's debut. The same is true of b-side 'In Doubt'. This one is built around slightly reverbed organ chords and wonky twisted melodies. It's a touch harder than ‘Buddha Call’ and perhaps a little more interesting too. Overall, a decent EP from Schneider comprising two deep house tracks with a trippy edge to them. These are probably not as mindblowing or as fresh as either track on Schneider's first EP but they're still worthy of attention.
