- Let's start with the B-side, shall we? 'Doch' meanders for four mildly-interesting, ultra-intricate, slow-motion minutes - all liquid FX, gurgling washes and padded drums, like a post-nuclear fallout Luciano, before collapsing in on itself. But don't reach for the needle – wait for the beautiful, haunting chords to gradually unfurl and twist a reverbed, phased path though to the end, working their way through to nothing. It makes sense now. 'Doch Nicht' doesn't have as obvious a pay-off, but, if you appreciate details, there's certainly more to investigate: over a similarly relaxed tempo, Stefanik adds, chops and stretches a stuttering guitar riff, warm chords, random glitches and bleeps as well as more percussive elements than we could count. It lurches into an upright position near the end, thanks to an impressive, unexpected build and another tasty riff, but soon nods off again. In the right hands (or on the right drugs?), it could sound amazing, but in the cold light of day, it feels a little too self-conscious. Still, an interesting effort from a producer who isn't afraid to try something different.
