- Who the hell is Dusty Kid? Over the last few months, the name has cropped up on Systematic, Great Stuff and now Kling Klong, but where has he come from? Well… Cagliari, Italy actually, but he's also half of electro monster act Duoteque. Since the start of 2006, he’s been spot on more times than not, whether it be with proggy electro cuts or relentless techno. ‘Signal ’63 EP’ is no exception.
This EP gives you a track for all occasions. ‘I Love Richie’ is an unrelenting techno effort that is full of abrasive percussion and raved-up energy. ‘Cowboys’ is the exact opposite. With grooving synths and spacey twinkles, it’s deep-tech-house gold, reminiscent of Jeff Bennett. ‘Mantrakoma’ is more jacking. Cut up reversed vocals weave through robot bleeps and mean basslines, sounding for all the world like that dwarf from Twin Peaks getting run over by a thresher. But in a good way. Lastly there is ‘The Riot’, which is getting the most attention, but in my opinion it’s the weakest cut here. It’s a nine minute acid thumper that just doesn’t ever yield, but it’s one of those tracks that can be mildly annoying depending on your mood.
I’m actually disappointed that I didn’t discover Dusty Kid until only recently. This EP kicks ass.
