David K - Three Arches EP (Part 1)

  • Tsuba continue their French experiment here, following up singles from Oxia and Danton Eeprom with this one from Freak N Chic's David K. David Kemoun has had a good year so far, with major releases on Cocoon and Dan Ghenacia's rather hot Freak N Chic label. Now he comes to UK label Tsuba with the Three Arches EP, backed by a Motorcitysoul remix. There are just two tracks on the misleadingly named ‘Three Arches’ EP. The first is David K's ‘Incoming’. It's darker and a little less deft than some of K's recent melodic masterpieces, and in fact sounds more like his Freak N Chic label-mate Marc Antona's style of hypnotic acid house. After two anthems like ‘Boul De Nerf’ and ‘Maryann’, ‘Incoming’ is a little disappointing in its stoicism. It lacks the groove of some of K's recent work, and thumps along without really grabbing you. It's not utterly worthless but it's certainly not great. On the flipside, Motorcitysoul, an act who seem to have been around forever without provoking any kind of strong emotional response, produce a melodic house re-work in the style of Âme. Surprisingly, it's better than the original here, if a little typical of the "Europeans do US house" phase the scene is going through at the moment. That aside, it's a nice if unremarkable deep house track, on a nice if unremarkable 12.
