Trackheadz - His Kingdom EP

  • With summer just around the corner, the piano pings and strings of soulful house music are at their most tempting. As we speak, the record shops are filling up with DJs furiously flicking through the racks trying to find this season’s equivalent to ‘Sandcastles’ and ‘The Back Door’ (did every 2006 anthem have Ferrer’s hand in it? Well no, I guess there was also Jon Culter’s ‘It’s Over’ or the ever reliable Mr. V with 'Something with Jazz' and 'Just Dance). Anyway, ‘His Kingdom’ isn’t what heads are going to be walking out the door with. Unfortunately, ‘His Kingdom’ is just another usual suspect, similar in effect to Trackheadz’ ‘Feel’, a cut vastly improved by its recent Mr. V edits. There are looped keys, a soft bassline, you know the story, but in the end it’s a disappointment from the usually reliable Nick Holder, one half of the studio pair Trackheadz. Likewise the melody of ‘Kompakt’ (inspired by the Cologne label?) on the B-side is too samey to get Mexican waves happening in clubs. With the wealth of knowledge and talent that these two guys possess, you'd think their sessions would be a pleasure not a chore. Not too much sunshine in this one.
