Umek makes no bones about the business he’s in – fast, linear and synthetic sounding with big beats and bigger riffs. And this is absolutely true to form.
Straightforward in terms of the vinyl: side A is peak time side B is quieter, and therefore unlikely to receive much play.
Straightforward in terms of beats – boom boom boom plus a few clicky noises so we know it’s 2007.
And straightforward in terms of delivering what the people want – a big overpowering riff halfway through side A which marches across the midrange destroying all comers. It’s male, it’s white and it’s European and makes sure you know it.
In summary this is exactly what you expect a Umek record to sound like in 2007 – it’s up to you to decide whether that’s a good thing or not.
