Jamie Jones - The Capsule EP

  • One of London’s most promising young guns sees his second release on Dan Ghenacia’s label Freak N' Chic. The three track EP kicks off with ‘The Capsule’, an infectious number built around a deep rolling drums, a whistle and a single male vocal intoning ‘The Capsule’ – this will get heads down and feet moving. On the flipside, the lead synth melody of ‘Are You Sedated’ is clean and interesting, building the track nicely into a killer groove that recalls Matthias Tanzmann or Daniel Stefanik. B2 ‘It’s Scary Down Here’ starts off more driving, repeating vocal samples before dropping into a nice rhythm in the spirit of Green Velvet or early Pantytec releases. Jamie Jones is definitely finding his groove, and with releases on Crosstown Rebels and Poker Flat, he’s also finding the right labels. ‘The Capsule’ EP has been smooth enough to find friends in Sven Vath, Kiki and Tiefschwarz, and it definitely proves young UK based producers are finally finding their feet in late 2006.
