Deibeat - Time to Rock

  • "Deibeat? Who the hell is Deibeat?" Dude's new single 'Time to Rock' is out now accompanied by a Drummatic Twins remix. It’s a name that doesn’t ring any bells, but I checked the net and it seems his previous claim to fame is one of fifteen names on the back of a little-known Spanish breaks comp ‘This Is Break Beat’ from 2004. An upstart breaks producer then, but fair is fair, everyone’s gotta start somewhere, so stick it on the turntable. Quite frankly, it's mediocre. The original mix is juvenile breaks at best, practically begging The Man to lower club entrance age to 14 so its key fan base can pop-and-lock to this shit. What we have here is a standard chunky breaks track blindsided by an overtly trance-y buildup that's only cool if you're too drunk to care. The Drummatic Twins remix, however, is an entirely different case. It's as if an advertising agency, knowing they had a lame product on their hands, asked a funky-fresh firm to liven up their product a bit (see: deodorant, McDonald's commercials). Forgoing the trance buildup, the Drummatics instead make 'Time to Rock' more…farty, for lack of a better word. Squelchy, anus-exiting synths douse this track, and it's about as dirty as realizing there's no toilet paper for miles. But this is a good thing. Golden work from Finger Lickin's weakest link, and the only thing that makes this EP worthwhile.
