Breakfastaz - Pressure Remixes

  • Passenger signings The Breakfastaz have created quite a stir in the breaks scene since winning Breakspoll's Breakthrough DJ award in 2004. Their debut release on Passenger was the rave meets breakbeat tune ‘Pressure’ which met with mixed appeal – people either loved the girly vocals or hated them – but it was the 'fastaz production that made the tune stand out. Two years on and label bosses Aquasky provide a new take on the tune with King Roc going for a 4/4 vibe. First up is the Aquasky remix, which continues in the same bassline style as the original but introduces a big room-filling bass early and ravey female vocals in the breakdown. Those in the audience not wearing earplugs will get themselves a right old eardrum pounding as the bass only gets bigger, with big growling sub bass drops - I think the vocals are there to serve as the sweet parts of the track. This caused mayhem when Aquasky unleashed it on the Break Inn crowd in Sydney when they played last. From the other side of the spectrum comes Adrift records signing King Roc who removes the syncopated rhythms in favour of deeper tech house. The original bassline is cut up with delays and fitted with techy stabs and fills with King Roc adding his own electro synth hooks for extra flavour. The vocals are used minimally, mostly through the breakdown. Not really something I'd play but it would certainly have appeal to those who love dark techy electro.
