  • Now back in Tasmania to live with his family, Paul Smith AKA Smithmonger shows no signs of slowing down his production career with another double header release for Superstyle Deluxe's Payback Project imprint. Paul's first release on Payback was the rave siren loaded mayhem of ‘Straight Out Of Burnie’ with the Beastie sampling ‘Wind Up’ and he follows this up with 'Harmony/Bitches'. Smithmonger certainly has a distinct sound in his productions and anyone who's been following his breakbeat releases will be very familiar with the dirty growling bass tones and fat, punchy drums. ‘Harmony’ is no different and takes its name from the sci-fi flick voice over that plays throughout the tune. It is a direct follow up to 'Straight Out Of Burnie' in that it builds up in the middle to a siren loaded climax which then plateaus out towards the end. ‘Bitches’ on the flip is a no-nonsense tune with Smithmonger going for a four to the floor beat with the occasional off beat snare to keep it in the realm of breaks. As always the bass is as dirty as ever but on top of that, Smithy drops a very nasty vocal sample. Hey it works very well on the dancefloor - once people catch onto the vocals they start chanting along to it!
