Digital Breaks Foundation - Way Back

  • 'Way Back' is the follow-up to Digital Breaks Foundation's debut release on Boombox 'One Inch Punch'/'Ultimate Indecision'. DBF are a relatively new production crew with a sound loaded with plenty of atmospheric stylings at the deeper and darker end of breakbeat. In return for DBF’s remix of Sifter & Adan's ‘Heyflicker’, Sifter & Adan here also provide a remix with plenty of crossover potential. ‘Way Back’ kicks off with a long hi-hat intro accompanied by techy sweeps and bass drops. It takes a while, but once the beat settles in it's chock full of deep electro flavour with its rumbling bassline and electro hook. The title of the tune comes from the soulful vocal sample laced throughout, and just to throw everyone off guard, DBF throw down a half-tempo rock breakdown during the middle before getting back into the deep electro theme from earlier. Sifter & Adan once again take the crossover tech-house-meets-breakbeat route they've exploited on previous Boombox releases. Their remix is a lot more uplifting than the original; they keep the same deep bassline but add a bouncy electro hook on top and drop random bits of syncopation into the beat. Smack bang in the middle, the beat switches to a four to the floor very typical of Sifter & Adan's style and I do feel the vocal sample suits this remix better. Not a bad release. I can forsee Sifter & Adan's remix working on the dancefloors I intend to play it on and it should sit well with the tech-house crowd.
