- MYNC Project team up with long time house veteran Danny Rampling for ‘Strobelight’ which gets a huge release on YO records. Dave Aude, Sharam, Steve Mac and Random House Project are called in to help.
The original is a serious house tune that features no fluffy highs and easy listening. From the start it displays solid beats, gritty rolling melodies and pulsating basslines that keep the mood upbeat. A deep, male vocal talks about living for the strobelights while classic sustained synths add a little emotion though they struggle against huge acid melodies.
Dave Aude’s remix starts off with a long intro featuring the vocal under effects and light high hats. Once the beat kicks in, it is immediately accompanied by a subtle squelching groove and filtered guitars. The vocal goes robotic once in the breakdown as synths wash over creating a moody atmosphere. A siren sample is introduced later on with great effect as it pans across the speakers.
Sharam adds his re-edit to this release as we see the original lengthened with more emphasis aimed at the breakdowns and sustained synths.
The tribute mix from Steve Mac ventures into more traditional house territory as simple drums and high hats lead on smoothly. The acid melody is toned down while Steve adds an uplifting feel with synths and sprinkling effects. The vocal is given a lot of treatment as it is cut up and looped over and over. Steve has added his own interpretation of the melodies and work really well while the major breakdown here is probably the best over this release.
Random House Project’s mix brings up the rear and turns in a strong electro piece. The melody is chaotic as it peaks all over the place while the vocal gets looped in the background. Once the madness stops, the breakdown takes in a little acid and once the build finishes, the electro melody comes back in to cause more mayhem.
This release is big and can only be handled by YO! Steve Mac and Random House Project provide the standout here as they are quite different and rather addictive.
