Amor Satyr - Transfer

  • Techno meets trance meets baile funk.

  • Amor Satyr is on a tear. The French producer takes continental techno and shakes it up with all kinds of outside influences, and in the case of Transfer, his new EP for Modeselektor's Seilscheibenpfeiler label, he throws in the jagged feel of Brazilian baile funk. All four tracks are wonderful—from "Bebe"'s screwface bassline and hypnotic vocals to the throbbing electro-prog of "Quer Dançar" to the decadent broken techno of "Transfer"—but the best is "Rebola." This one barrels ahead with an unabashedly trancey drum pattern, plenty of reverb, dramatic delay and splashy drum rolls, all crash-landing into passages of lunging baile funk and stuttered vocals. It's a genius combination pulled off with real finesse, adding a French connection to the world of producers fusing pan-Latin American sounds with house and techno.
