- Get down to the funky late 80's/early 90's vocals! That's how I would describe Porno's "Music Power" out on the Data Records label and due for release on Monday 23rd of January. Folks take note, this is a stomping track which is already getting airtime from Radio One's champion of beats Mr. Pete Tong.
The radio edit and vocal club mix take no time to kick straight into a very funky bassline. However the thing the grabs you about this track is the very distinctive vocals, hitting you for a hands in the air "Power Music Power". The track also drops in for early nineties-esque "were getting funky", redolent of a CC Music factory in its pomp! Hi hats accentuate the existing funky groove with a sweet electro synth pattern as the track builds up before everything drops out and then "Power Music Power"!
Things really start to heat up with the Syke'N'Sugarstarr mix. It starts at a very smooth pace as the funky bassline keeps things moving nicely while the tracks distinctive synth pattern floats over the top. The track then drops away before a kicking back in with a hot guitar riff before those vocals again soar over the top, building the track into a dance floor filler. More vox samples "feel the power of bass..."add to a nice and funk atmosphere with a ton of fills, efx and echoes.
The other remix of note is the Paul Woodford mix. This mix falls heavily into "so hot right now" electro-house genre, with some funky clicks, tight hat work and muffled bass. The trademark synth kicks in with a slightly distorted feel before dropping in the tougher almost twisted vocals. Great for the electro house crew out there.
Overall one can only praise the outstanding production on this release. A clear sign that this is the start of some excellent work to come. My overall my pick is the Syke'N'Sugarstarr remix, which could definitely find at home at the peak time of your set. Keep your eye on this.
