Bungalovv - Glued Armor feat. Efe Ce Ele

  • Deconstructed club music on a cinematic scale.

  • More often than not, cinematic music makes me think of a big blockbuster movie, not an eerie indie western. But Argentinian-born producer Bungalovv's 2020 debut album, Donde Hubo Fuego, was definitely more of a Bacurau than an Interstellar, intertwining folk instrumentation with dissonant and deconstructed club music to make for something haunting and cerebral. His latest EP, Visited By Strangers, is smoother by contrast, and more emotional—and grand—because of it. "Glued Armor," co-produced by Efe Ce Ele, is a good example. The rising Spanish guitar notes and yawns of sub-bass lend it a sweet yet formidable feel, like Totoro stirring in his slumber. Once the song reaches its zenith, tense string pads and a rousing baile funk beat lift it into something as dramatic as that moment in Interstellar where Cooper docks onto the spinning space station—a feat of cinematic proportion.
