Pulse Emitter - On The Move / Floating Life

  • You can practically smell the incense emanating from the seasoned synth artist's latest 7-inch, dedicated to the late Norm Chambers.

  • Daryl Groetsch is on a tear. The Portland, Oregon-based experimental veteran spent 2022 putting out tons of records under his own name, then closed things with a skunky bang on a November album from his long-standing Pulse Emitter project called Dusk. Now, Groetsch is back with a 7-inch under the same name. Across two sticky tracks, his arsenal of modular synths creates undulating, '80s-tinged atmospheres. The A-side, "On The Move," uses an arpeggiated FM lead, trebly pads, and a pleasantly chintzy bassline to conjure a cyber-dystopian vibe. "Floating Life" is a bit more subdued, centered on dense, melodic billows of sound more are in line with the celestial palette of his releases under his given name last year. Dedicated to his friend, the late Seattle ambient musician Norm Chambers, these two cuts are follow-up tracks that come together to play more like their own cohesive statement than an afterthought.
