DJ Stingray 313 - Remote Surgery

  • Stingray gets weird on this highlight from Standard Deviation's new Ukraine fundraiser compilation.

  • Standard Deviation's new compilation From Ukraine, For Ukraine is loaded with unusual tracks from Ukrainian and international artists alike—czysta forma's epic "serafloating cirrus tears of vermilion billows light" is also worth a listen—but "Remote Surgery," the contribution from DJ Stingray 313, is what catches my attention the most. That's because it's a welcome chance to hear the electro hero in slightly spacier form. This one feels influenced heavily by '80s industrial, with quaking basslines, hydraulic sounds and what sounds like strings coating the background. It's funky and discordant, and in a weird way, almost baroque, fuller and more rounded than Stingray's often brittle (but excellent) brand of electro. It's just one delight on a compilation full of them.
