Phil Evans - Goin'

  • G-funk meets minimal on Phil Evans' flashback to summer.

  • I want a drink of whatever Phil Evans is having. The Frankfurt producer is one of the most consistent purveyors of Vitamin D-enriched deep house out there. On his latest EP, Tha Lowride, which lands on his own Freizeit Records, you can practically smell the sunscreen and Aperol. All four tracks hit like a SAD lamp, but it's "Goin'" that I keep moving the needle back to. The vocal refrain—"Going my way"—is straight to the point, and a chunky bassline drives the track forward. If that doesn't warm you up, the synth work should. Evans takes the spacey bleep structure of minimal and applies it to a G-funk melody, making this a record for backyard BBQs whether you're on the banks of the Pacific or the Main.
