  • You'd be lying to yourself if you said you weren't lured here by the drawing of that red demon and its bulbous butt. Visuals aren't always a great place to start for a review of audio, but this one captures the devilish nature of Skitungen, AKA towLie, AKA Towa Isling', EP Längre än Långtån, for Dutch label Rubber, almost perfectly. The Swedish producer also runs her own label, KäfTen Records, which explores a somewhat nostalgic side of techno that loves a rough Roland kick and acid synth. Think something close to L.I.E.S' Music for Shut-Ins compilation, or the lighter side of Apron Records' back catalogue. Längre än Långtån is perhaps just too loose for that imprint. It's an EP of post-punk-electro-dub hybrids that toy with beatmaking in a manner more akin to the likes of Prostitutes' or Shit & Shine's releases on Diagonal. A slurry of deep chugging arpeggios, high winding synths and acid-tinged stabs—alongside Isling's own ethereal vocals—make lead single "jag viLL baRa ha aLLt" both giddy and spooky at the same time. Picture Shaggy and Scooby hurtling through Indiana Jones' Temple Of Doom chased by a devil with juicy glutes, and you'll be about halfway to realising the fun of this tune.
