Cameo Blush - Template

  • The on-point unknown - untitled series comes correct with a glittering, almost infuriatingly catchy house track.

  • If you're not familiar by now, unknown - untitled is a British label that first releases music without context or credit, revealing the artist behind them a few weeks later. Past guests have included Ciel, Nachtbraker and Tristan Arp, plus Cameo Blush, who returns for the label's first single-track release. The concept might be gimmicky if the music weren't so strong, and in the case of "Template," it added a nice bit of suspense, since if you've been listening to a certain style of UK DJ, you'd no doubt have heard this one already. "Template" is the latest track that taps into the post-dubstep revival sound, where the colours are pastel and the vocals high-pitched. The rhythm is buoyant and skippy, buffeted by fluffy-cloud trance arps that pull the track higher and higher towards the heavens, as clever snare rolls add a hint of giddiness, and an almost percussive vocal grunt adds some contrast to the chipmunky hook. It's instantly memorable and further establishes the day-glo sound Cameo Blush has already impressed us with—maybe by the time he does another one of these, we'll know right away that it's him.
