Queensyze - Smells Like Aciid

  • A newer face from Canada turns in two cuts of big and brash techno with just a hint of cheekiness.

  • Making techno with pounding kick drums, reverb-drenched chords and venomous 303s runs a fine line between banging and boring. Sometimes it's all you want to hear in a dark warehouse, but it can also slip into the sterile and formulaic. Candian producer Queensyze takes these classic elements and makes them her own on her newest EP, Smells Like Aciid, her first release after a brain injury nearly derailed her career. The original cut of "Give Up Your Love" is where we get to see her personality coming through. It's more restrained than the acid assault of the title track, chugging rather than pummeling along. But it's vocalist Sara Sukkha, repeating the refrain, that makes the track work—adding just the right amount of cheese to a late night tool.
