- Driving techno that packs plenty of soul.
- Over the past few years, Gabriella Vergilov, the Bulgarian-born, Copenhagen-based producer and DJ has forged an alliance with some of the elder statesmen of the techno world—particularly Eric Cloutier, Dustin Zahn and Ben Sims, all who have released her records on their respective labels. Listening to "Kristalen," the lead track off her newest EP for Sims' Symbolism imprint, it's easy to see the fit. While it's a peak-time track, it has that je ne sais quois of personality that keeps techno like this from sounding sterile. Vergilov's vocal recitations and twisted arpeggios aim for the deep reaches of your auditory cortex while the drums have some shoulder-popping swagger thanks to a bit of swing and the delay on the claps. Functional for sure, but just as funky.
