  • Dax J's latest album—his second in under a year—is actually more of a compilation, comprising recordings that darte all the way back to 2005, to raise money for the Ukrainian Red Cross. Soul Enforcer is a mixed-bag of styles with plenty of humor thrown in (titles like "Praying To The Porcelain God"), but its best moments come when the British producer turns his attention to jungle, like on the fleet-footed "Walking Home From The Club On A Cold Winter Morning." Far from the post-club fuzzy vibes you might expect from the name, it's a slice of paranoid jungle, the soulful basslines undercut by dread-filled chords that lurk like shadowy figures around the corner, along with muttered vocals. It's just one highlight of many on an album that shows off Dax J's range as well as raises money for a good cause.
