- Jabu's 2020 album, Sweet Company, was a tale of love and longing, where vocalists Jasmine Butt and Alex Rendall sang of desires for fleeting moments before fading away like half-remembered dreams. Two years on and the amorphous soundscape that envelopes the duo's words is still being reinvented: a cassette of versions in November 2021 and now two singles remixed by dubwise producers Time Cow and Ossia.
Time Cow, best known as part of Equiknoxx, turns Sweet Company's penultimate track, "Us Alone," into a gentle indie dance tune ripe for summer solstice. Organ keys and a synthwave patch enliven the ethereal mood of blinking metallophone notes from the original. Coaxed out by dainty tambourine hits, the words, "I always knew you were the one to please" and "ideas of us all alone" feel like sweeter affirmations of desire than they ever were before.
