- Beaming out sounds of the Indian Ocean from Mauritius since 2017, Babani Records kicks off 2022 with a collaboration between Italian-Australian producer Ribongia and the Réunion island singer Kaloune. "Mon Kèr" is a love song knitted from a complex arrangement of violins, wooden mallets and Italo disco synths. Kaloune's singing style comes from maloya, one off the main traditional musical styles of Réunion. The melody within each of her lines sets the pace for the track: instead of following the lead of the percussion, her vocals place the kicks as the markers of a slow jam that slowly and steadily grows with well-earned crescendoes along the way.
