  • Recognition is a reissue of one of the very first records by Jacek Sienkiewicz, an influential Warsaw producer, live performer and DJ. This EP first came out in the year 2000 on his label, Recognition, which is by now a rich archive of Sienkiewicz's numerous solo works and collaborations with other prolific artists, such as ATOM™ and Max Loderbauer. (Other delights include an homage to pioneering Polish Radio Experimental Studio and the debut EP from CHINO, a name from Krakow's clubbing scene that ought to be recognizable.) Recognition—the EP—is a work about peeling back the layers, whether it's the classic (Detroit-style) minimal techno of "Straight Up" or the stripped-down, dubby sounds of "Clear Decision" and "Shape." On "Reveal," Sienkiewicz plays with these layers, removing the hi-hats intermittently and exposing the track's bare wires—the steady drums and synths—giving "Reveal" its unique drive. Recognition itself, the act of giving credit where it’s due, is also about peeling back the layers too. The history of Polish electronic music is little explored, and this EP is a chance to peer into the sound of its early days, as created by one of its pioneers.
