The trance undertones and more saccharine elements of the original are pulled apart into constituent pieces—a reversed note there, a flourish here—over one of those timeless, engaging snare-hat patterns that has defined Herbert's work since the '90s. Like Dusky's original, Herbert's version of "Lost In You" cycles through several passages, this time over 11 minutes, but it never loses sight of its thumping house heartbeat, a flickering sign of life that stays steady through all the melancholy. I'm not speaking lightly when I say this sounds like it could be an outtake from Bodily Functions. Some remixes are mere task work, while others are masterpieces that can wring out new shades of brilliance from their source material. I can't say which of those options Herbert felt like he was working with here, but the results are inarguable.
