  • By now it's clear that the UK's jazz renaissance isn't stopping for a breather anytime soon. Mackwood (AKA Harry Ling) is a member of the mesmerizing Levitation Orchestra and one of the London jazz scene's rising stars. His latest release "Jewel Theme" is a stirring piece that feels expansive without becoming overindulgent. Once you take in the fact that it's an improvisation, its nomadic movements start to make more sense. This melting pot of intricate playing hits a stride at its midpoint, boiling over into something decisive and full of vigor. Some deranged guitar playing, frantic keys and blitzing drumwork build to a crescendo of raw energy, like witnessing the birth of a new, great idea.
