- There is something that feels particularly wintry, even cozy, about "Brain Dead" from Tom McAlister's second release as Big Ever. Although there's still plenty of the heavy but intricate UK club machinery he's known for, his latest EP, Studio Productions, "Brain Dead" is less Kowton and more Lanark Artefax. Once the initial feedback recedes, the track is swept up in IDM-style melodies, broken vocal snippet, and even the occasional strum of an acoustic guitar. With a bassline as warm as a glass of Glühwein, this is the perfect soundtrack for a snow day.
