  • The releases on Medellín-based Insurgentes push the boundaries of experimental techno. Distorted and graphic, the music often blends a cinematic sense of scale with glitchy production. Its latest offering, from Chile's Tomás Urquieta, builds on this theatrical approach. Coming off an ambient release, the artist shows off his dark side on "Poshlost." With its staticky intro and ghostly synths, the record begins on a mad scientist tip until rumbling bass and tribal percussion emerge to form a more familiar club sound. These latter elements carry the entire track but Urquieta finds space for atmospheric touches and IDM-inspired quirks. It's a spooky, albeit riveting, ride.
