  • The fourth release on Club Qu is a melange of moody, electro-inspired rhythms from Miami-based DJ and producer Coffintexts. In the past, Coffintexts has credited Miami’s "eclectic" club culture as her main inspiration, and the unmistakable sound of Miami bass throbs and pulses throughout 8700, her debut EP for the Berlin label. "Into It" showcases Coffintexts’ knack for manipulating vocals—she stretches them out to the point of almost snapping, and the broken cadence adds a trippy feel to the light-footed drum work. On "Why'd You Do That?," thwacking drums and jungle percussion speed up the pace before Coffintexts eerily intones: "I don’t understand why you do that to me." It creates a hazy, almost threatening atmosphere. The title track scuttles through with skittering snares and a chunky bassline, while "Feel" is the sharpest tune here, with flecks of acid and frenzied hi-hats that cut through the mist like a barbed-wire. Danny Daze’s remix of "Why'd You Do That?" ends the EP on a wigged-out notel, slithering between beefy bass and a cacophony of squelching noises, adding yet another layer of frenetic energy. (Parts of the track sound like lightsabers whacking against each other.) An intoxicating fix of fragmented sounds with flavours of Miami bass, 8700 sees the Florida native reimagining her city's legacy of dance music with her own unique flair.
