  • "Music has evolved differently since the clubs closed," Simo Cell said in an interview two months ago. "Before that, DJs who played in clubs set the trends and influenced music producers. It's different now… it's harder to feel what's hot." With Hodge as an accomplice, on their new EP Drums From The West, the two set a trend for bold, nostalgic textures, blending sounds of '00s-era dubstep with hints of trance, dancehall and icy grime. It’s hard not to smile at the opening dread of the title track as it echoes around shuddering pads before the bass flatlines under a downpour of rapid-fire pulses and possessed vocals. It's physical, psychedelic and piping hot.
