  • There are certain well-worn cliches when it comes to discussing Detroit house music. I've been guilty of plenty of talk about "dusty samples" myself, but Patrice Scott's music, in contrast, is razor sharp. In terms of pure jazz & funk-informed musicality, the Sistrum head's excellent new EP, For My People, slots in nicely with the most fleet-fingered artists from the UK broken beat scene, while also following in the giant steps of UR's Galaxy 2 Galaxy hi-tech jazz supergroup. Scott goes for a more subdued sound as usual. The interplay between an earworm piano line, swinging percussion and funky, spaced-out synth leads on "The Detroit Track" is stunning, the mixdown warm and crystal clear.
