- Apiento's 2019 track "Things You Do For Love" perfectly balanced convincing low-end heft with chilled Balearic vibes, reminiscent of slow-burn favourites like Double Fantasy's "Heartbreaker" or the sun-kissed oddities that Apiento highlights on his excellent blog, Test Pressing.
It's one of the key downtempo tracks of the decade, which makes a 12-inch version with alternate mixes an extremely welcome development. (The original was only released on 7-inch.) The pull here is the Mad Professor remix, a serious coup for World Building, placing Apiento in league with Sade, Massive Attack and countless other acts whose productions have been reworked by the Guyanese-Southeast London dub mix legend.
Mad Professor's mix is fairly by-the-numbers, but that's just fine—the Ariwa treatments of FX and space will simply never get old. While the Mad Professor version hollows out the mix for maximum impact, the "Machine Mix" dubs out the original's snappy percussion. While the original was perfect for the early hours of a club night, the Mad Professor mix is suited for around sunrise, when everything's gone a bit haywire.
